Apple may be holding a press briefing for the 16-inch MacBook Pro this week

Reports also suggest that production may have begun.

What you need to know

  • Reports suggest Apple may be holding a press briefing for the rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro this week.
  • Bloomberg's Mark Gurman is amongst those alluding to the event and an impending announcement.
  • Reports also suggest production is underway.

There are separate reports suggesting that Apple plans to hold a private press briefing for its new 16-Inch MacBook Pro today, Tuesday 12 November.

As reported by 9to5Mac, public and private knowledge seems to point to the event:

This week appears to be one of those occasions based both on what 9to5Mac is hearing privately and suggestions by multiple public disclosures. If Apple is holding private press meetings at the start of this week, that suggests we could see the subject of those meetings announced publicly by the middle of the week.

In response to the report, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman took to Twitter to seemingly confirm the reports:

In response to his own tweet, he also seemed to explicitly confirm that the briefing would be held "tomorrow", meaning November 12:

Only question remaining from multiple folks: is the announcement tomorrow (briefings day) or Wednesday (when review embargoes lift)? Also, 24 hours for a review seems like so little time, so I'd hope the stories are framed as "previews" or "first looks."

The news comes in wake of reports via MacRumors suggesting that production for the 16-inch MacBook Pro was already underway. That report stated that the release timing was unclear, but that recent supply chain checks confirmed that analysts had seen "early signs" of the notebook within Apple's supply chain.

All the reports seem to suggest that a 16-inch MacBook Pro announcement is imminent. Many had touted Apple to hold a second event sometime in the fall where it would announce the new device. This obviously didn't come to fruition, however, on October 28 Apple announced its new AirPods Pro via a press release, and held a press briefing the following day. The AirPods were made available for purchase online on October 30. If reports about production are correct, it could possibly be the case that Apple is planning to announce the new MacBook Pro, but that purchase and release may be a little further away.

If Mark Gurman is indeed correct about a possible announcement either today (November 12) or tomorrow, then we don't have long to wait! Are you excited for a 16-inch MacBook Pro? Let us know!
