How to get every Pokémon Go Medal

Now with new Platinum Medals!

Like many games, Pokémon Go has a way of tracking your in-game achievements. This is done with Medals. Everything from catching specific types of Pokémon to hatching Eggs, spinning unique PokéStops to defeating the Leaders of Team GO Rocket, if you can do it in Pokémon Go, you can probably earn a Medal for doing it well. What's more, you'll need to earn a certain number of Medals to go beyond level 40.

With so many Medals to keep track of and only some of them being particularly useful, we here at iMore have everything you need to know to earn each, as well as the bonuses those Medals grant you. How do you get Pokémon Go Achievement Medals?

Pokémon Go Achievement Medals are fairly straight forward to get but not always easy. Each one is awarded for completing several specific tasks, but the number and tasks all vary greatly. To get an award, be it Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum you simply have to reach the required number.

While some of the Achievement Medals only get you bragging rights, others will grant access to exclusive clothing for your trainer's avatar.

How do you get the Jogger Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Jogger Medal is straight forward. Earning this Medal . It's the same idea as walking buddies for candy or Pokémon Eggs to hatch. Stick to around 10 KM/H.

  • Bronze: Walk 10 KM
  • Silver: Walk 100 KM
  • Gold: Walk 1,000 KM
  • Platinum: Walk 10,000 KM

The Jogger Medals unlock the following pieces of male wardrobe:

  • Bronze: Sunglasses, Watch, Visor
  • Silver: Shorts, Shoes
  • Gold: Tank Top

How do you get the Collector Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Collector medal represents the raw number of Pokémon you've caught, regardless of their type. They can be super common all the way up to Mythical.

  • Bronze: Catch 30 Pokémon
  • Silver: Catch 500 Pokémon
  • Gold: Catch 2,000 Pokémon
  • Platinum: Catch 50,000 Pokémon

How do you get the Breeder Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Breeder Medal is earned by Hatching Pokémon eggs. It doesn't matter if they're 2 KM, 5 KM, 7 KM, 10 KM or even 12 KM eggs, you just have to hatch them.

  • Bronze: Hatch 10 Eggs
  • Silver: Hatch 100 Eggs
  • Gold: Hatch 500 Eggs
  • Platinum: Hatch 2,500 Eggs

You can cut back on the distance this takes by prioritizing your Eggs. Keep your Infinite Incubator and standard Incubators for the 2 KM or 5 KM Eggs while saving your Super Incubators for the 7 KM, 10 KM and 12 KM Eggs. You can also save your coins for special boxes with loads of Super Incubators. During Community Days and special events, these boxes can offer big savings on Incubators.

How do you get the Scientist Medal in Pokémon Go?

This one is also straightforward: You get the Scientist medal by evolving Pokémon. If you're already grinding Pidgey, Caterpie, and Weedle for XP and levels, you should make it in no time.

  • Bronze: Evolve 3 Pokémon
  • Silver: Evolve 20 Pokémon
  • Gold: Evolve 200 Pokémon
  • Platinum: Evolve 2,000 Pokémon

How do you get the Backpacker Medal in Pokémon Go?

To get the Backpacker Medal in Pokémon Go, all you have to do is visit PokéStops. They don't need to be unique PokéStops either.

  • Bronze: Visit 100 PokéStops
  • Silver: Visit 1,000 PokéStops
  • Gold: Visit 2,000 PokéStops
  • Platinum: Visit 50,000 PokéStops

How do you get the Battle Girl Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Battle Girl medal in Pokémon Go comes, not surprisingly, from battling in Gyms. Every time you battle in a Gym and beat a Pokémon from a rival team, you get credit for one battle.

  • Bronze: Win 10 Gym Battles
  • Silver: Win 100 Gym Battles
  • Gold: Win 1,000 Gym Battles
  • Platinum: Win 4,000 Gym Battles

The Battle Girl medals unlock the following pieces of female wardrobe:

  • Bronze: Gloves
  • Silver: Shorts, Shoes
  • Gold: Tank Top

Like the Jogger Medal, these items are gender-specific so, unless you change your avatar, only one set is available even if you unlock both Gold Medals.

How do you get the Berry Master Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Berry Master Medal is earned by feeding Berries to Pokémon in Gyms controlled by your team. You can feed up to ten standard Berries to up to ten Pokémon every half hour or an unlimited number of Golden Razz Berries.

  • Bronze: Feed 10 Berries
  • Silver: Feed 100 Berries
  • Gold: Feed 1,000 Berries
  • Platinum: Feed 15,000 Berries

The key is accumulating enough Berries — primarily Nanab Berries because there are very few Pokémon which they help catch — to feed the Gyms, and finding Pokémon low enough on motivation that you can feed ten to each one.

How do you get the Gym Leader Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Gym Leader Medal kind of replaces both the old Ace Trainer Medal. You get the gold by putting your Pokémon in the new Gyms and having them stay there.

  • Bronze: Defend Gyms for 10 hours
  • Silver: Defend Gyms for 100 hours
  • Gold: Defend Gyms for 1,000 hours
  • Platinum: Defend Gyms for 15,000 hours

The Gym Leader Medals unlock the following pieces of male and female wardrobe:

  • Bronze: Gloves
  • Silver: Shorts, Shoes (in Red, Blue, and Yellow)
  • Gold: Top (also in Red, Blue, and Yellow)

How do you get the Champion Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Champion medal in Pokémon Go is straightforward. Win Raid battles.

  • Bronze: Win 10 Raids
  • Silver: Win 100 Raids
  • Gold: Win 1,000 Raids
  • Platinum: Win 2,000 Raids

While this would take several years with the single free Raid Pass you get each day, if you prioritize spending your PokéCoins on bundles that include Premium Battle Passes or Remote Raid Passes, you can complete this one much faster.

How do you get the Battle Legend Medal in Pokémon Go?

Battle Legend is just like Champion, but for Legendary Raids.

  • Bronze: Win 10 Legendary Raids
  • Silver: Win 100 Legendary Raids
  • Gold: Win 1,000 Legendary Raids
  • Platinum: Win 2,000 Legendary Raids

Again, since you only get one Free Raid Pass a day, that could take you several years. If you buy Premium Raid Passes, of course, and track down as many Tier 5 Raids as you can, you can get there much faster. This will cost a lot of Pokécoins or real cash.

How do you get the Pokémon Ranger Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Pokémon Ranger Medal is rewarded for completing Field Research tasks collected by spinning PokéStops. You can get one task per PokéStop per day, but you the only limit to tasks you can complete is your own time and energy.

  • Bronze: Complete 10 Field Research tasks
  • Silver: Complete 100 Field Research tasks
  • Gold: Complete 1,000 Field Research tasks
  • Platinum: Complete 2,500 Field Research tasks

Also, make sure you're making the most of Community Day. During Community Days, the regular research tasks are replaced with a task that require you to catch three of the featured Pokémon. This means you can clear tons of these in the course of the event.

How do you get the Pilot Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Pilot medal is all about trading Pokémon from different places and is measured in distance. For example, if you catch a Pokémon in Japan and trade it for a Pokémon caught in New York, you'd get credit for roughly 10,000 KM.

  • Bronze: Trade Pokémon over 1,000 KM distance
  • Silver: Trade Pokémon over 100,000 KM distance
  • Gold: Trade Pokémon over 1,000,000 KM distance
  • Platinum: Trade Pokémon over 10,000,000 KM distance

If you're limited to how much travel you can do, another way to get this Medal fast is to make international Pokémon Go friends and send each other presents. When you get a 7 KM egg from a friend, its location is based on where your friend picked up the gift. Then, trade that Pokémon to a local friend and presto! You just gained a lot of distance!

How do you get the Gentleman Medal in Pokémon Go?

You earn the Gentleman Medal by completing Trades.

  • Bronze: Complete 10 Trades
  • Silver: Complete 100 Trades
  • Gold: Complete 1,000 Trades
  • Platinum: Complete 2,500 Trades

Remember, a Pokémon can only be traded once, and certain trades are more expensive, but if you work with a friend trading lots of common Pokémon, you can finish this one in no time flat.

How do you get the Idol Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Idol Medal looks deceptively easy. All you need is three Best Friends to get the gold. But it takes 90 days to get a Best Friend. So, if you increase your friendship status with three different friends every day, the fastest you can get it is 90 days.

  • Bronze: Become Best Friends with one Trainer
  • Silver: Become Best Friends with two Trainers
  • Gold: Become Best Friends with three Trainers
  • Platinum: Become Best Friends with 20 Trainers

The way to speed this Medal up is to build up multiple Friendships at once. You can Raid, Trade, Battle, and Gift with many different Trainers each day, so it's possible you could build up all the necessary Friendships for Platinum at the same time.

How do you get the Cameraman Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Cameraman Medal is earned from having a Pokémon photobomb your AR Snapshots. This is most likely going to be Smeargle but can include other limited Pokémon during special events.

  • Bronze: Have 10 Pokémon Snapshot Surprises
  • Silver: Have 50 Pokémon Snapshot Surprises
  • Gold: Have 200 Pokémon Snapshot Surprises
  • Platinum: Have 400 Pokémon Snapshot Surprises

How do you get the League Veteran Medals in Pokémon Go?

You can ean League Veteran Medals by completing Trainer Battles in the Pokémon Go Battle League. There are separate Medals for Great League, Ultra League, and Master League, but they all require the same number of wins:

  • Bronze: Win 5 Trainer Battles
  • Silver: Win 50 Trainer Battles
  • Gold: Win 200 Trainer Battles
  • Platinum: Win 1,000 Trainer Battles

While the Bronze and Platinum Medals don't grant a reward, the Silver and Gold grant new styles in the shop:

  • Silver Great: Ace Gloves, Ace Earbud
  • Gold Great: Veteran Pants
  • Silver Ultra: Ace Top
  • Gold Ultra: Veteren Jacket
  • Silver Master: Ace Shorts and Ace Shoes
  • Gold Master: Veteran Boots

Pokémon Go limits the number of battle sets you can complete in the Go Battle League each day and usually only one League will be available at a time, so make sure to complete all the allowed Battles each day if you want to complete these Medals fast.

Retired and back again: What happened to the Ace Trainer Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Ace Trainer Medal has changed as certain mechanics were retired and new ones introduced. Originally, you earned it by training or prestiging up a friendly Gym under the old system. When prestiging was removed from the game, this Medal was retired. However, it is back. Now, by training against the Team Leaders in one-on-one battles.

  • Bronze: Train 10 times
  • Silver: Train 100 times
  • Gold: Train 1,000 times
  • Platinum: Train 2,000 times

Additionally, earning the following Medals unlocks style shop items for your avatar:

  • Bronze: Ace Pants
  • Silver: Ace Boots
  • Gold: Ace Vest

How do you get the Hero and Ultra Hero Medals in Pokémon Go?

Introduced alongside Team GO Rocket, the Hero and Ultra Hero Medals are earned by battling Team GO Rocket.

The Hero Medal requires:

  • Bronze: Defeat 10 Team GO Rocket members
  • Silver: Defeat 100 Team GO Rocket members
  • Gold: Defeat 1,000 Team GO Rocket members
  • Platinum: Defeat 2,000 Team GO Rocket members

Although there is no limit to how many Team GO Rocket members you can battle in a day, if you're stuck relying on the Aerial Attacks, make sure you're logging in multiple times throughout the day to get all four. There are also events in which Team GO Rocket hot air balloons appear more often, as well as events that feature Jesse and James' Meowth hot air balloon. Make the most of these events, especially Jesse and James, who count as two battles to get these Medals.

The Ultra Hero Medal requires:

  • Bronze: Defeat the Team GO Rocket Boss once
  • Silver: Defeat the Team GO Rocket Boss 5 times
  • Gold: Defeat the Team GO Rocket Boss 20 times
  • Platinum: Defeat the Team GO Rocket Boss 50 times

This Medal can only be earned by defeating Giovanni, who can only be encountered by using a Super Rocket Radar. Because the Super Rocket Radar is earned through Special Research, you cannot battle Giovanni more than once a month during normal times. The following Ultra Hero Medals also unlock avatar style items:

  • Silver: Giovanni Pants and Giovanni Shoes
  • Gold: Giovanni Gloves and Giovanni Shirt

How do you get the Purifier Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Purifier Medal requires purifying Shadow Pokémon rescued from Team GO Rocket:

  • Bronze: Purify 5 Shadow Pokémon
  • Silver: Purify 50 Shadow Pokémon
  • Gold: Purify 500 Shadow Pokémon
  • Platinum: Purify 1,000 Shadow Pokémon

Although you can technically purify any Shadow Pokémon you capture, the cost in Stardust and Candy for purification increases with the rarity of the Pokémon. Additionally, Shadow Pokémon get a huge attack boost at the cost of low defense, making them perfect glass cannons. In fact, the strongest Pokémon in the game are Shadow Pokémon, so for the rarer Shadow Pokémon, especially the Legendaries as well as those with especially high IVs, you may want to keep them as they are.

How do you get the Kanto Medal in Pokémon Go?

Kanto is the name of the region in Gen I and the location of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. The Kanto Medal represents all the Pokémon from Kanto that you've added to your Pokédex.

  • Bronze: Register 5 Pokémon from the Kanto region
  • Silver: Register 50 Pokémon from the Kanto region
  • Gold: Register 100 Pokémon from the Kanto region
  • Platinum: Register all 151 Pokémon from the Kanto region

Additionally, the Bronze Kanto Medal unlocks the following avatar style items:

  • FireRed Backpack
  • FireRed Wristbands
  • FireRed Cap
  • FireRed Pants
  • FireRed Top
  • FireRed Shoes

How do you get the Johto Medal in Pokémon Go?

Johto is the name of the region in Gen II and the location of Pokémon Silver and Pokémon Gold. The Johto Medal, like the Kanto Medal before it, represents how many of the Gen II species you've added to your Pokédex.

  • Bronze: Register 5 Pokémon from the Johto region
  • Silver: Register 30 Pokémon from the Johto region
  • Gold: Register 70 Pokémon from the Johto region
  • Platinum: Register all 100 Pokémon from the Johto region

As with the Bronze Kanto Medal, the Bronze Johto Medal unlocks the following avatar style items:

  • Johto Bag
  • Johto Cap
  • Johto Pants
  • Johto Top
  • Johto Shoes

How do you get the Hoenn Medal in Pokémon Go?

The Hoenn Medal is for catching Gen III Pokémon initially featured in Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire.

  • Bronze: Register 5 Pokémon from the Hoenn region
  • Silver: Register 40 Pokémon from the Hoenn region
  • Gold: Register 90 Pokémon from the Hoenn region
  • Platinum: Register all 135 Pokémon from the Hoenn region

So far, the only reward for the Hoenn Medal is bragging right (and XP!) Also, because there is still one Hoenn region Pokémon (Kecleon) that hasn't been released, you cannot technically earn the Platinum Hoenn Medal yet.

How do you get the Sinnoh Medal in Pokémon Go?

Like the previous region Medals, the Sinnoh Medal is earned by catching Gen VI Pokémon originally encountered in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl.

  • Bronze: Register 5 Pokémon from the Sinnoh region
  • Silver: Register 30 Pokémon from the Sinnoh region
  • Gold: Register 80 Pokémon from the Sinnoh region
  • Platinum: Register all 107 Pokémon from the Sinnoh region

With four Sinnoh region Pokémon (Manaphy, Phione, Shaymin, and Arceus) still unreleased, you cannot technically earn the Platinum Sinnoh Medal yet.

How do you get the Unova Medal in Pokémon Go?

Like the previous region Medals, the Unova Medal is earned by catching Gen V Pokémon originally encountered in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White.

  • Bronze: Register 5 Pokémon from the Unova region
  • Silver: Register 50 Pokémon from the Unova region
  • Gold: Register 100 Pokémon from the Unova region
  • Platinum: Register all 156 Pokémon from the Unova region

There are still 16 Pokémon from the Unova region that haven't been unlocked so the Platinum Unova Medal isn't available yet.

How do you get the Kalos Medal in Pokémon Go?

Another region based Medal, the Kalos Medal is earned by catching Pokémon from Gen VI originally introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

  • Bronze: Register 5 Pokémon from the Kalos region
  • Silver: Register 25 Pokémon from the Kalos region
  • Gold: Register 50 Pokémon from the Kalos region
  • Platinum: Register all 72 from the Kalos region

At the moment, only 21 of the Kalos region Pokémon have been released, one of which is a Regional Exclusive, making only the Bronze version of this Medal obtainable.

How do you get the Youngster Medal in Pokémon Go?

You get the Youngster Medal by catching tiny (less than 1KG) Rattata. When you appraise a Pokémon, your Team Leader will comment on its size if it is above or below average weight. You specifically want them to say your Rattata are tiny to count towards this Medal.

  • Bronze: Catch 3 tiny Rattata
  • Silver: Catch 50 tiny Rattata
  • Gold: Catch 300 tiny Rattata
  • Platinum: Catch 1,000 tiny Rattata

It's been estimated that around 12% of Rattata that appraise are tiny, which means you'd have to catch a ton, but Rattata are very common and Alolan Rattata also count. You can even Trade for "tiny" Rattata, though. So, if you get some, hold onto them and trade with Friends who've also saved their tiny Rattata.

How do you get the Pikachu Fan Medal in Pokémon Go?

Who isn't a fan of Pikachu, seriously? However, to earn the Pikachu Fan Medal, you have to prove how much a fan you are by catching tons of Pikachu.

  • Bronze: Catch 3 Pikachu
  • Silver: Catch 50 Pikachu
  • Gold: Catch 300 Pikachu
  • Platinum: Catch 1,000 Pikachu

Events featuring costumed Pikachu will really make a dent in this count. You can also Trade for Pikachu. So, if you get some, hold onto them and trade with Friends who've also saved their Pikachu.

The Pikachu Fan Medals unlock the following avatar style items:

  • Bronze: Pikachu Fan Headband
  • Silver: Pikachu Fan Shorts and Pikachu Fan Shoes
  • Gold: Pikachu Fan Shirt

How do you get the Fisherman Medal in Pokémon Go?

You get the Fisherman Medal by catching big Magikarp. When you appraise a big Magikarp, your Team Leader will comment on how huge/colossal/gigantic it is. Specifically it will weigh at least 13.13KG and measure at least 1m.

  • Bronze: Catch big 3 Magikarp
  • Silver: Catch big 50 Magikarp
  • Gold: Catch big 300 Magikarp
  • Platinum: Catch big 1,000 Magikarp

It's been estimated that around 15% of Magikarp that appraise are big so it takes catching a lot of Magikarp to earn this Medal. You can also Trade for big Magikarp, though. So, if you get some, hold onto them and trade with Friends who've also saved their big Magikarp.

The Fisherman Medals unlock the following pieces of male wardrobe:

  • Bronze: Fisher Cap
  • Silver: Fisher Pants and Fisher Boots
  • Gold: Fisher Vest

How do you get the Unown Medal in Pokémon Go?

Unown is a Gen II Pokémon with 28 distinct shapes, one for each letter of the alphabet from A to Z, an exclamation point, and a question mark. The more unique shapes of Unown you catch, the closer you get to earning these Medals:

  • Bronze: Catch 3 Unown
  • Silver: Catch 10 Unown
  • Gold: Catch 26 Unown
  • Platinum: Catch 28 Unown

Unown are one of the rarest spawning Pokémon out there with some veteran Trainers having never encountered even one outside of an event. However, Niantic does periodically release set letters to spell out words related to real-world events, such as C, H, I, A, G, and O for the Chicago Pokémon Go Fest. You can also Trade for Unown. So, if you get duplicates, hold onto them and trade with Friends who've got duplicates of other Unown.

How do you get the Legacy 40 Medal in Pokémon Go?

With the Go Beyond update, Trainers can now reach level 50. Players who reached level 40 before the end of 2020 were rewarded with a Timed Research line that included a Gyarados Cap and a Legacy 40 Medal.

How do you get the Pokémon Special Event Medals?

Some Medals are only available for a limited time. Since the first Pokémon Go Fest Chicago in 2017, medals have been given out for attending some of the real-world events. The only way to get them is to go to one of the events. You don't get any special items or bonuses for having an event medal, but it is a great souvenir. Unfortunately, these Medals are no longer available, so if you missed out, your only option is to keep an eye for the next real-world event.

Pokémon Go usually has at least a few events each year. With exception of Pokémon GO Fest 2020, they required a fair bit of travel for most players to attend and most also had very limited numbers of tickets. In response to the global pandemic, Niantic released Pokémon GO Fest 2020 as a live global event with unlimited tickets and no need for travel. It remains to be seen how Niantic will handle live event in 2021.

Global paid events in Pokémon Go

Beginning in November of 2019, Pokémon Go hosted its first paid global event, in which players could purchase the ability to participate, much like a real world event and would be granted a Medal as well. The Global Paid Events to feature Medals so far include:

  • Tap... Tap... Tappity-Tap 12-20
  • Verizon Special Weekend 11-20
  • Grubhub Special Weekend 11-20
  • A Drive to Investigate 04-20
  • Investigating Illusions 03-20
  • A Colossal Discovery 11-19

How do you get the Pokémon Type Medals?

Pokémon Go Type Medals are similar to the achievement medals, but focused on specific Pokémon types. Unlike the Achievement Medals, though, the type medals do come with a pretty significant reward. Each Medal increases your chances of catching a Pokémon of that type by 10% (in cases when a Pokémon has two types, the bonus is the average of both types.)

Since you get the bonus without having to do anything special, like curve your shot, and without having to expend any additional resources, like a Razz Berry or Ultra Ball, the bonus is not only effortless once you get it, but essentially free and infinite. That's a great reason to max out your type medals.

How do you earn medals?

To get a type medal, you need to hatch, catch, or evolve Pokémon of that type. Doing any one of those things gets you a point towards the medal and Pokémon with two types will award you with a point in both types.

  • Bronze: Catch 10 Pokémon
  • Silver: Catch 50 Pokémon
  • Gold: Catch 200 Pokémon
  • Platinum: Catch 2,500 Pokémon

While you'll naturally come across Pokémon of every type in regular gameplay, one of the best ways to complete type medals fast is to focus on events in which certain Pokémon are boosted (especially Community Days) and to go to your local parks where specific Pokémon nests can be found. If you connect with other local trainers on social media, some groups even share nest locations so you can pick out the right park each week to find the type you're trying to complete.

What about Pokémon that evolve into different types?

A few Pokémon change types as they evolve. For example, Shelldor and Seel are water types, but their evolutions, Cloyster and Dewgong are Water and Ice types. That means, if you catch or hatch the base Pokémon, you will get 1 point for your Water Medal but, when you evolve them, you'll get a second Water point and an Ice point.

How do you get the Schoolkid Medal for Normal type Pokémon?

There are so many normal type Pokémon and so many common Pokémon like Pidgey and Rattata are normal types. Because mass evolving Pidgey is a staple of leveling up, this is one of the easiest medals to get.
