We want our Apple TV+ shortcut button!
What you need to know
- Roku is still shipping remotes with the Sling shortcut button.
- The company is "transitioning" its supply to the new remote with an Apple TV+ button.
Trying to find the new Roku Pro remote with the Apple TV+ shortcut button is apparently a tough ask.
At the beginning of the week, Roku announced a new Roku Pro remote. In addition to some other handy features, the new remote features a shortcut button to watch Apple TV+.
The new remote will retail for $29.99 and it comes with some other notable features, not least the fact that you can ask "hey Roku, where's my remote?" and have the thing play a chime so you can find it. There's also a new hands-free control feature that lets you control everything without picking the remote up, not to mention a rechargeable battery that should last for a few months before needing any attention.
However, it appears that the company might still be shipping through its stock of older remotes before transitioning everything over to the new remote with the Apple TV+ shortcut button.
Dave Zatz found out the hard way when, after ordering what he thought was the new remote, he received a remote that still featured the Sling shortcut rather than the Apple TV+ one.
According to Chris Welch from The Verge, Roku has said that they are "transitioning" to the new remote, indicating that the company may ship out the rest of its current stock of Sling-buttoned remotes before customers can be confident they will get the one they are hoping for.
Roku has told me the Voice Remote Pro will be "transitioning " to the Apple TV+ button.

I'm guessing the Apple deal came together very, very recently. https://t.co/pSY3p3f0ye
So, if you're planning on upgrading to the new Roku Pro remote with the Apple TV+ shortcut button, you might want to wait a bit to ensure you get the one you're looking for.
